aspiration, noun: a strong desire to achieve something high or great
I am the kind of person who has to have something to strive for. Before I had kids, my life was pretty focused on completing my college degree. That is on hold for awhile, until the kids are in school full time.
Goals and aspirations were on the back burner for awhile while my babies were babies. Feeding them, changing diapers, and keeping the house reasonably clean consumed my thoughts 24/7. Now that they are growing up (*sniff*), I have decided to bring back some modest goals into my life. I am going to start working out again, and I am going to get this house in order.
I already have a gym membership that I was seriously considering canceling, but I found a new location with a wonderful daycare center that my son seems to love. The first location we went to was just not good; my son would scream for 10 minutes straight until they called me away from exercising. I never got anything done. Today he stayed in the daycare center for almost two hours while I exercised, took a nice long shower, and blow-dried my hair. You might not understand what a luxury it is for me to blow-dry my hair without being interrupted, but it's pretty up there these days. My workout plan includes going to the gym 3-5 times a week, sometimes to attend classes and sometimes to workout on my own. That will mostly depend on when I can get there and what is available. Last night I tried to go to this class called "Soul Grooves," which I thought was dancing, but which turned out to be belly dancing. I just could not get into it! There was a 70-year-old woman there who was hilarious to watch, both because she was so into it and because she could barely move her hips. I had to leave after 20 minutes because I was so frustrated with the routine. I just wanted to jump around and dance, not wiggle my hips leftrightleftrightleftright over and over!
Part of the problem with keeping the house as clean as I would like it is not remembering/realizing what needs to be cleaned at any given time. It's kind of an out of sight, out of mind issue. So I made a list of everything that needs to be cleaned on a weekly and daily basis and have been trying to stick to that. It's been immensely helpful and the house looks much better!
What are your aspirations, big or small?

Perfect Storm
perfect storm, noun: a critical or disastrous situation created by a powerful concurrence of factors
I had to take the little man in for his nine month checkup today, which was fortuitous because I wanted to have his chest cold checked on and this way I didn't have to pay an extra $80 for that. It turns out he has a double ear infection! I feel bad for him but there's not much I can do besides keep him warm and give him his medicine until he feels better. Luckily, the doctor was able to give me some ear drops to relieve the pain. I gave him some of those and put him down for a nap. He's sleeping soundly with his Metallica lullaby music and the humidifier.
When his appointment was over, I had to drive to Walgreen's to pick up the prescriptions, and while we were waiting in the drive through (thank goodness for drive-through pharmacies) my 2-year-old said "Mommy, I had an accident!" I was almost done paying for the prescriptions, so I had to wait in the car until that was done and the poor thing had to sit in her accident until we got home. I had to roll my window up because the baby was crying and the toddler was screaming and I didn't want everyone in the store to hear it.
I feel so much better now that the baby is sleeping, the toddler is watching tv (shhhhh, don't tell anyone!), and I am drinking my coffee and venting on here.

transition
transition, noun: passage from one state, stage, subject, or place to another
I walked into the baby's room to find him standing up in his crib, the railing height of which is lower than his waist! Time to lower the crib mattress so he doesn't fall out. Additionally, I found a rip in my daughter's toddler bed mattress, so now she needs a new mattress. And since we don't want to buy another toddler mattress for her, we're just going to get a full sized mattress and transition her to her bigger big girl bed. Not like that matters, she sleeps on the floor most of the time anyway!

bliss
bliss, noun: complete happiness
As they say, "ignorance is bliss." Nowhere is that more evident than with young children. Today my daughter and I were reading "Three Blind Mice" in her nursery rhyme book, and I tried to explain to her what the word "blind" meant. I told her blind people can't see, and I covered her eyes with my hand to demonstrate. She got very upset and said "Mommy, don't say that!" We moved onto another song, and she didn't say anything else about it, but I know my daughter is sensitive and will think about it and absorb it.
Am I going to spend the rest of my life chipping away at my daughter's bliss, one lesson at a time?

deluge
deluge, noun: an overwhelming amount or number
Despite my wavering commitment to my blog (see previous post, below), you can expect a deluge of posts today, complete with corresponding words and definitions. I'd put it all in one post, but I don't like to make my blog posts too long. I think (hope?) this makes my blog a little more interesting to read. I tend to read blogs in snippets on my phone when I have the time between changing diapers and doing laundry, and sometimes I don't get to finish reading before I have to stop again.

gumption
gumption, noun: enterprise, initiative
I've been unable to muster up the gumption to do much these days. My energy level is getting lower as the pregnancy progresses, and my back hurts when I bend down to pick something up, and the monkey requires most of my attention when she's awake.
This post has been brought to you by the letter N, for Nap.

cesarean section
cesarean section, noun: a surgical incision of the walls of the abdomen and uterus for delivery of offspring.
I had to have a c-section when the monkey was born, and I am now all set up to have another for the delivery of her little brother. We have so much to do in the house to prepare for his arrival. I just hope we can get it all done. We have to rearrange the office, move all the guest bedroom furniture into the basement, move the monkey into the old guest bedroom, and then set up for the little dude in the nursery. I don't know why, but I've been calling him the little dude for awhile now and the nickname has just kind of stuck in my mind.
ETA: I just read way too much about c-sections when I looked up the definition for this post. Out of curiosity I clicked a link to Encyclopedia Brittanica, and then decided to check out what Wikipedia had to say about c-sections. Apparently some lady in a village in Mexico is the only person known to have given herself a c-section. I cannot imagine that!

sputum
sputum, noun: expectorated matter especially from the air passages in diseases of the lungs, bronchi, or upper respiratory tract
The monkey and I are down with colds. She is getting very tired of not leaving the house and keeps running to the door and saying "friends, friends, friends." Whenever we head out to a baby class or storytime I tell her we are going to see her friends. We haven't been anywhere in almost a week. Here's hoping to improved health in our household.

Proliferation
proliferation, noun: to grow by rapid production of new parts, cells, buds, or offspring
What is with the proliferation of people standing on street corners holding signs? I'm not talking about the signs that say "Complete desperation, need money," I'm referring to the signs that say "$10 oil change" or "Complete Liquidation Sale - 95% Off Everything!!" Are wooden posts getting too expensive? Nobody wants an oil change so they're paying the grease monkeys to stand on the corner holding signs until someone else drives up? The Valvoline by my house has 3 people holding signs on different corners at the same time. I don't understand how that can be cost effective. It doesn't make me more likely to get my oil changed there, either. It just makes me feel sad for the poor guy standing there in 80 degree weather wearing all black and holding a stupid sign.

Dream
dream, noun: a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep
I have the strangest, most random dreams. Last night I dreamed that my brothers and sisters and I had our eyebrows waxed together, and we all ended up having four eyebrows each.
Have you had any strange dreams lately?
